Ali Hamza

BIOGRAPHY

Ali Hamza is a Pakistani singer, composer, and musician best known as a co-founder of the influential rock band Noori, which he formed with his brother Ali Noor in the mid-1990s. Hamza plays bass and guitar for the group, which is widely considered a pioneer of Pakistan’s “21st Century Pop Revolution”. A graduate of the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Hamza comes from a family deeply involved in the arts; his mother is a Sagarveena player, and his grandfather was a noted patron of music. In addition to his work with Noori, he has had a successful solo career, appeared on the music series Coke Studio, and composed for film. A self-described “mystic at heart,” he often draws on Sufi and folk traditions in his music.
