The Big three and a few others

Imagine stepping into the world of Future and Metro Boomin’s latest album, “We Don’t Trust You,” where Kendrick Lamar makes a guest appearance in the track “Like That.” Kendrick’s lyrical prowess takes center stage as he drops lines that harken back to the vibe of 2023’s Drake and J. Cole collaboration.

In J. Cole’s track “First Person Shooter,” he boldly claims the trio of himself, Drake, and Kendrick Lamar as the “big three” of the industry, likening their impact to starting a league. Kendrick, however, has a different perspective, asserting in his verse that “it’s just big me,” suggesting that he stands alone as the biggest force in the game.

The diss is nuanced, with Kendrick positioning himself as Prince to Drake’s Michael Jackson, implying that while both are legends, Prince (Kendrick) may have outlived and outshined MJ (Drake) in the long run.

It’s a lyrical showdown, more like the battle among the titans of the industry, and everyone is just watching and waiting for who comes out as the mighty winner of this showdown.

J Coles and Drake’s response

J. Cole’s response was like biting into a bittersweet chocolate—mostly bitter. His diss aimed at Kendrick fell flat, earning him more eyerolls than respect. To add salt to the wound, J. Cole later apologized, a move that left fans scratching their heads. It was a miss that even the most die-hard Cole fans struggled to defend.

On the other hand, Drake didn’t hold back. In his leaked track “Push Up,” he took shots at everyone from Kendrick to Future to The Weekend and Rick Ross. He even managed to squeeze in a jab at J. Cole’s apology, turning the tables with a mix of humor and straight-up savagery. Drake didn’t just throw shade; he brought a whole eclipse, calling Kendrick’s latest album a “pipsqueak” and suggesting he’s fallen off. Ouch!

Rick Ross makes an entrance

With Drake calling out Rick Ross, it wasn’t going to take long for Mr. Maybach’s music to clap back and he did on Saturday with his diss track “Champagne Moments” where he calls Drake a “White boy” and suggested how Drake got a nose job and a surgery on his stomach. Which again was a low blow to Drake.

Seems like Drake’s getting outnumbered as more folks hop on Team Kendrick. We’re all just sitting back, popcorn in hand, watching this drama unfold. However, in the 90s, such beef ended with one side’s career dying… or worst-case scenario… them dying.
Personally, I vibe with J Cole. He’s like the wise sage of the rap game, always lifting others. Yeah, he threw some shade at Kendrick, but he was quick to say sorry. Shows he’s got heart, not just fire bars. Sooo… whose side are YOU on?
