A guitar is a piece of instrument I think everyone as a child wanted, whether it was just to hang on their walls because it is such a cool looking object or to play to impress in the hopes of becoming the popular kid in college or university. Like how does a human one day think of attaching strings on wood and making sounds out of it, and eventually as the time goes by this musical instrument keeps getting cooler and making entire stadiums BOP!? However, even with it being such an iconic object for everyone most people don’t know how it came into existence and how it evolved over the centuries and turned into what we now call a guitar!

It gradually morphed during medieval times into the “gittern” or “guitarra,” a smaller, more intimate instrument with fewer strings. During the Renaissance and Baroque eras, painting wasn’t the only thing gaining popularity, the guitar gained popularity as well among the nobles, evolving further in the 19th century under the skilled hands of Spanish luthiers like Antonio Torres Jurado.
The 20th century heralded the rise of the steel-string guitar, beloved for its bold, resonant tones that perfectly complemented folk, country, and blues music in America. A guitar probably is more evolved than horseshoe crab but in a good way, starting from as early as 3100 BC with a lute, and ending up right here with an electric guitar only goes to show the number of brains and countless hours of thinking that went into perfecting just a handheld instrument.
